Canada’s gay and lesbian musical artists and songwriters have gained acclaim not just across our country, but internationally.
K.D. lang, Rufus Wainwright, Ben Hartt, Heather Bishop, Salome Denny, Joel Gibb, Will Munro, Louise Pitre, Ashley McIssac, DJ Chiclet, Faith Nolan, Ember Swift, Rocky Mountain Men’s Chorus and theCounterpoint Community Orchestra are just an example of Canadian artists who have proudly celebrated their musical gift in performances throughout our country and globally, both on stage and at festivals. It’s time to celebrate and to showcase these amazing artists showing their Maple Leaf Pride.
This two-hour musical celebration will be taped for broadcast to a national television audience which could coincide with national gay pride week festivities. The musical special will present original compositions as well as gay anthems — TheVillage People’s YMCA, Abbacadabra’s Dancing Queen, kool & the gang’s Celebration, the weather girls’ It’s Raining Men, Rupaul’s Free to Be and Gloria Gaynor’s I Am What I Am — and Canadian songs such as Something To Sing About and This Land is our land.
The two-hour special presentation will begin with a taped short prologue by one of the world’s foremost entertainers sharing his admiration for Canada’s gay and lesbian artists. This Agora Films International Inc. production will be directed by John A. Labow and produced by Edmund A. Oliverio and John A. Labow.
Agora Films International Inc. is presently securing Canadian broadcast licenses and equity. Through its international distributor, the musical special will be marketed to the 16 gay and lesbian broadcast channels around the world (England, United States, Australia, France, etc.)as well as to conventional broadcasters.
