Producer John Labow sets up in Calgary

by David Parker, Around Town

Well-known Canadian entertainment producer John Labow has purchased a Calgary company and incorporated a new film company here with the intenton of relocating from Toronto. He has produced a vast number of programs for TV Ontario, CBC, and WSBE; music by Shania Twain and Johnny Cash with his Nashville company Renaissance Records and operates a unique global teleconferencing service with his Videolink Productions. Attracted by the talent that exists here in both the local film and music industries he has purchased the assets of Canadian Casting Centres and is operating it as part of the film community based in the CFB West under the new name of Canadian Casting Centres International. The mainstay of CCC for the past number of years, Jacqueline Roza, has been named its director of marketing.

Labow’s partner in the new venture is U.S. based filmmaker and distributor Bruce Garrison who also represents CDI Engineering, which has an operation in Calgary.

They plan to expand services here to include live video auditions with Toronto and Los Angeles, expand actor workshops and instruction to songwriters and musicians and promote his Fast Traxx Media Group record label in Calgary.

Labow has already joined forces with Edmund Oliverio and Glenn Ludlow to launch a new production company -- Agora Films International.
